Captive elephants

The Captive Elephant Welfare Program is conducted in collaboration with Bannerghatta Biological Park to assess the welfare parameters and ecological impact of the captive resident elephants at BNP. These elephants are kept in a semi-extensive system of keeping where they are let out into the national park in the evening, meeting their ecological needs. Interactions with wild elephants are also being observed to understand their impact on each other.
